Indian Students Solve Real-world Problems in Pilot Project, Technergize

Can students really solve the biggest issues facing humanity today? Can they accomplish this using computer technologies?

The IEEE Computer Society India Council Student Activities Committee believes the answer to both of these questions is “yes.”

In 2017 and 2018, Richard E. Merwin scholar Shivam initiated a project titled Technergize that put these questions to the test. Technergize is a cross between an internship and competition that provides participants the opportunity to work on a substantial issue, drawing on innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, network security, cyber security, natural language processing and data mining. Get to Know Hima Bindu

Hima Bindu, a 2017 Richard E, Merwin Student Scholar,  is an undergraduate student in Computer Science and Engineering at Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE) which is part of the Kerala Technological University where she has been actively involved in various branch and inter-branch activities. Hima has served as the Secretary of the student branch and also as the Technical Committee member. She is the organizer and ambassador of “Project: The Confidence Code,” an initiative under IEEE Women in Engineering affinity group focused on bridging the confidence gap between genders. She won second place at the Global Short video contest conducted by IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology affinity group. Hima is also a core committee member of TEDx Thiruvananthapuram, the recipient of The Prime Minister’s scholarship for excellence in academics, the Director General’s Meritorious award in Academics, and an active organizer of events at her collegial fest. Get to Know Arundhati Kurup

Arundhati is an undergraduate student in Computer Science and Engineering at Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE), which is under the Kerala Technological University where she’s been very involved in her university’s Student Branch Chapter and other IEEE activities. Arundhati has served as the Chair of the Student Branch Chapter, and the Vice-Chair for the school’s Women in Engineering Affinity Group. She has been a Content Team Member for the Computer Society India Council Student Activities Committee and the Mentor and Organizer for The Codelab Project. Arundhati has won the Computer Society of India Student Award (2017) for exemplary academic achievements and a scholarship from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SCTCE for high academic achievement.
