South Africa Chapter Hosts ICTAS 2019: Information Communication Technology and Society

The third ICTAS 2019 Conference took place on 6–8 March 2019 in Durban, South Africa, where more than 90 delegates, representing academia, research institutes, and industry attended the event.
Both international and national organizations participated in the conference, which provided a venue for electrical and electronic engineers to exchange ideas, share their latest research contributions, network with their peers, gain continuing education opportunities, and most importantly, learn about the innovations and solutions to issues affecting human well-being. IEEE Computer Society Brings Tencent and Waseda University Together for Special Event
In December 2018, Tencent research teams from China visited Waseda University in Japan for a one-day seminar organized by the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE CS). IEEE CS connected these two groups as part of an ongoing effort to promote collaboration between industry and academia.
The meeting took place at the Waseda University Green Computing Systems Research and Development Center, which is led by IEEE Computer Society president, Hironori Kasahara, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and director of the campus’s Advanced Multicore Research Institute. IEEE Computer Society Announces New Executive Director Melissa Russell
We are pleased to announce that Melissa Russell has been named IEEE Computer Society Executive Director. Melissa comes to us from the Optical Society (OSA) in Washington, DC.
As the Computer Society’s most senior staff member, Melissa will lead the executive team and will be responsible for managing our board of directors and volunteer groups to continue the progress of the Society’s extensive membership, international conferences, publications, standards, and training programs.
